I was at an event last night, the Houston Hispanic Media Professionals gala. By the way, the speaker John QuiƱones was entertaining, inspiring, and touching. He reminisced about his friend Sylvan Rodriguez, for whom the gala is named.
Anyway, I was sitting next to a published writer who writes full time and I told him how envious I am of him. He was telling me that the most important thing for a writer to do is to write every day. I agree with him wholeheartedly and I told him that I have a blog. He told me something that Rey is always telling me too. He said that my blog is a waste of my time. He said it's for pure entertainment and not real writing.
I agree to a certain point with him but I would never go as far as saying that my blogging is a complete waste of my time. I agree that I should be doing constructive writing every day. I should be working on my novel, finishing my first draft, then moving on to the editing process.
However, with all that I have going on in my life right now, trying to achieve physical and spiritual balance, I haven't really had the time to do constructive writing. I know I need to, and I plan on going back to it, but I need do this right now. Blogging gives me the opportunity to write something. To practice with my words in some way, even if it's not in a great literary way. Am I making any sense?
Therefore I don't consider blogging a waste of my time. Not if I'm aware that it doesn't' take the place of real writing. I want to finish what I'm working on now because I want to move on to work on a young adult piece I've often thought about writing.
For now I need to work on my laundry and I need to start packing! I'm going to LA next week for an advertising conference and Rey and the kids are coming too. We're taking Miranda to Disneyland on Saturday. More about that later!

No matter who he is he still has shortcommings and obviously a grasp of blogging is one of them.
If blogging, at the moment, is full filling your needs, then it is not a waste of your time.
Remember, you make your "blog" to be whatever you want it to be- don't let others tell you what you need or do not need.
Cuidate!
Thank you! I totally agree Coco! It does work for me at this time and that's what counts. Like I said in my post, I don't disagree with him completely. I know I need to get back to serious writing eventually when the time is right for me.
I second Coco...if u enjoy it then do it. Plus, for those of us (ur friends) who don't come in contact with you everyday...it's good to know you and the family are doing alright. Yay! Disneyland...how fun!
Keep up ur posting
Hello from LA! Thanks for the support my fellow bloggers! I'll be back Sunday night so I'll keep blogging when I get back.
I'm late, but Loida, blogging is NOT a waste of time. Writing is writing. It's up the writer - and the readers, which you have - to make it something valuable.
And besides, what's wrong with writing for entertainment or for entertaining?
Keep on, girl.
PS - It's Joey!
Hey Loida--you can always do what I did and cut critics off at the pass by naming your blog, "A Big Fat Waste of Time".
I love how this blog entry has received the most comments ever!
